So, you have a business and it’s doing well. Now, you’re considering taking it to the next level. I am going to share with you four actionable strategies that can help you grow your business quickly.

When you’re managing a business, it’s always important to look for ways to grow. However, I must warn you that sometimes you can actually grow your business too quickly, which can be detrimental to the success of your business. So, before I jump into the secrets of how to grow your business quickly or strategies of how you can grow your business quickly, I would like us to consider a few things that you need to have before you can even undertake this growth path.

What are the signs that your business is ready for growth?

  1. When your industry is growing. If there’s a lot of economic activity in the industry that you work in, it’s a sign that your business is likely to grow. For instance, if you’re a micro-lender and there’s an influx of new customers, like the 30,000 teachers recently recruited by the government of Zambia, this is a great opportunity to expand your business.
  2. Cash flow. Before you take any major steps to grow your business, you need to ensure that your business is financially prepared to take on this growth. It would be very sad for you to start growing your business and realize you have very little finances to sustain this growth. Look at your sales, are they going up? Is your business profitable? Do you have cash available? These are indicators that your business is ready to grow.
  3. If your customers are demanding more from you. When your demand exceeds supply, it’s a brilliant sign that your business is ready for growth.

These are the signs that your business is ready to go to the next level.

What are the actionable strategies that you need to take to start growing your business today?

The first strategy that you can undertake to grow your business quickly is to grow your team.

By growing your team, what I mean is bringing new people. Remember the article that I did on ‘The leadership role that is required at each stage of the business cycle’? If you read that article, you’ll remember that as you are moving from the startup stage to the growth stage, the growth stage is where you actually consider hiring people in your company.

Because when you are in the growth stage of your business, you are actually creating systems and processes, and these systems and processes need to be implemented by people. At the growth stage, we expect that you are moving away as the lone person or the only person that does everything. You’re not just looking at the operations, but now you’re starting to take a strategic view of your business, which is why it’s actually starting to grow. At the growth stage, you’ve created systems and processes, so you need to hire the right team that has the right skills to help you fill in the gaps.

You might have been doing sales and marketing, and you might have been doing your own accounting. But then, this is taking up a lot of your time, and it’s not useful to you anymore because it’s taking you away from doing the core of your business. You’re becoming too busy doing accounting and advertising instead of doing the core work that is needed. This is the time you now need to hire the right people to actually help you start growing this business. At the growth stage, I expect that you’ll have already created systems, you’ve got job descriptions for any vacancies that you want to fill in. It’s important to have clear job descriptions so that when you hire people, you’re actually hiring the right people that are coming to help you fill in those gaps.

The second actionable strategy for you to grow your business quickly is to focus on your current customers.

Now, it’s common for business people to look at attracting new customers to their businesses. My encouragement to you is to actually focus on your current customers. If they already appreciate you, they already appreciate the value that you add to them, and they love your business. Consider what new products you can offer them. How else can you add value to their lives or to their businesses?

My encouragement to you is to consider your current customers and look at areas where you can improve your services for them or introduce new products or services for them. Because when you do this, the customers are going to be more satisfied, and it’s your current customers that actually refer other people to your business.

The third actionable strategy that can help you grow your business really quickly is to leverage social media.

You see, a long time ago, without the internet, without social media, advertising was extremely expensive, for you to get your advert in print media or to have a billboard done. Nowadays, you can leverage social media to expose your business to so many people.

The advantage of social media is that you’re not just out there within your locality, but you are seen across the country. Sometimes, if you do your advertising really well on social media, you’re actually even seen all over the world. So, leverage social media when it comes to growing your business, especially when it comes to advertising and marketing. There are so many different platforms that you can utilize. There’s Facebook, there’s LinkedIn, there’s Twitter, there’s TikTok

You don’t need to be a big business to utilize Facebook. All you need is to know how to use Facebook – how to create a post, how to boost a post – and that post can actually compete with big corporations. So, leverage social media and utilize it to grow your business quickly. You’ll save money and be on a platform that can expose you not just locally, but to audiences globally.

The final actionable strategy that I would like to share with you is that you need to attend networking events.

There’s a detailed article that I’ve written that you can read on how you can go about creating networks that will help your business grow. The final tip is that you need to be out there networking. There are many ways you can network. You can use websites such as LinkedIn to create a profile for yourself, and then create a business page for your company. You can start creating networks in this way.

Another way to network is to attend business events. You can become a member or affiliate yourself with a business association, and they will invite you to networking events. Alternatively, you can research any events that are taking place that will help you achieve your networking objectives, and that will help create the right links of business connections.

When you attend a networking event, you never know who you are going to meet. They might just be the people that will refer clients to you or invest in your business. That is how your business is going to take off to the next level.

I do hope that you are going to start implementing some of the strategies, but also be aware that growing too quickly sometimes can have adverse effects on your business. So, you need to be ready for growth. Consider the signs of growth: do you have enough cash flow? How is your industry performing? Is it growing? Is there activity in your business industry?

When the signs indicate that your business is ready to grow, definitely consider implementing the strategies that I’ve discussed in this article.
